STUDENT SESSION AT THE SPRING IAB MEETING

Students involved in CenTiRe funded research projects held a student session during the recent IAB meeting.

STUDENT AWARD WINNERS

The CenTiRe IAB members want to recognize the excellent work being done by the students involved in the CenTiRe funded projects.  

SCHOLARSHIP RECEIVED

Meysam Khaleghian was named the Amir Chand and Dewki Bal Batra Scholarship Award by the Engineering Mechanics Graduate Program of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics at Virginia Tech.

CENTIRE STUDENT EMILIO JIMENEZ RECEIVES ASME AWARD

Emilio Jimenez, a PhD student working in the project “Tire-ice model validation and comparative analysis of tractive performance of tires on ice”, has been awarded the 2017 ASME/Virginia Tech Memorial Scholarship. 

GRADUATES JOINING INDUSTRY

Several students from CenTiRe funded projects have recently completed their degree programs and are joining the industry.  We offer them congratulations on a job well done and a wish for success in their careers.

CENTIRE GAINS NSF APPROVAL FOR PHASE II

CenTiRe operates under the auspices of the NSF Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC) program.  Every 5 years the Center is reviewed by NSF to assure that it is operating to standards and fulfilling the goals of the I/UCRC program.  CenTiRe is completing its first 5 year phase and so was reviewed by NSF this past fall. 

 

IAB MEMBER HAMID ABOUTORABI OF GITI TIRE FEATURED IN TIRE TECHNOLOGY INTERNATIONAL

GITI Tire’s R&D Director for North America, and CenTiRe IAB member, Hamid Aboutorabi was featured in the November 2016 issue of Tire Technology International.  GITI Tire has been expanding its presence in the North American market, and Dr. Aboutorabi described their current and future plans in the article. 

NEW GRADUATES - TWO PHD'S AWARDED AND ONE MASTER'S

Three students have graduated. 

CENTIRE PROJECT FACULTY MEMBER INSPIRES COMIC CHARACTER 

Dr. John Jelesko is involved in the CenTiRe funded project “Modulating silica-rubber interface by biorenewable urushiol-derived silanes”, but his broader work and expertise in poison ivy has led him, or at least a character inspired by him, to be included in an online comic series  Partners 5 (http://thepartners5.com/) created by Umar Mycka.
