Center for Tire Research
An NSF Industry/University Cooperative Research Center

CenTiRe seeks to conduct pre-competitive research in areas collectively identified by its industry members as critical to their companies and the industry.

This past summer the Industry Advisory Board selected 16 research topic areas distributed within the Center’s four thrust areas to seek proposals from the faculty at the Center’s two university sites. Members of the IAB wrote descriptions of desired work in each of the topics, including background, potential benefit to the members, recommended skills and facilities, and success metrics. These were assembled into a Request for Proposals (RFP) document which was distributed to faculty within multiple colleges and departments at the two universities. Faculty proposed research topics were also solicited.

A tremendous response of 40 short form proposals were submitted by the faculty earlier this fall. They also presented posters during the Fall IAB meeting to facilitate discussion with the IAB members and further explain their proposed research.

During a closed door session at their Fall meeting the IAB selected 17 for submission of a full length proposal in February. These proposals will then be reviewed by the IAB members in the spring, leading up to presentations of the final candidates and decisions for funding at the Spring IAB meeting in June.
