NSF I-CORP GRANT GIVEN TO DR. SAIED TAHERI
Dr. Saied Taheri, CenTiRe Director, has recently been given a National Science Foundation (NSF) I-Corps grant for his work on intelligent tires.
The National Science Foundation (NSF) I-Corps program prepares scientists and engineers to extend their focus beyond the university laboratory, and accelerates the economic and societal benefits of NSF-funded, basic-research projects that are ready to move toward commercialization. Through I-Corps, NSF grantees learn to identify valuable product opportunities that can emerge from academic research, and gain skills in entrepreneurship through training in customer discovery and guidance from established entrepreneurs.
Jim Cuttino, Saied Taheri, and Meysam Khaleghian
The VT Intelligent Tire Team consists of Saied Taheri (PI), James Cuttino (Mentor) and Seyedmeysam Khaleghian (Entrepreneur Lead). There were 21 teams in the cohort who met for the 3-day kick off workshop in Los Angeles. During this workshop 14 interviews were conducted with potential customers as the workshop emphasis was on learning how to come up with hypotheses, test them with interviews, and validate or reject them. Over the past 5 weeks, the team has been interviewing potential customers (with the goal of reaching 100 by the end of November). The closing workshop where the final results of the discovery will be presented by all teams will take place in Los Angeles on Dec 4-5. During this meeting, teams will announce a go or no-go decision of their idea/product.
