Center for Tire Research
An NSF Industry/University Cooperative Research Center

Members of the Center for Tire Research (CenTiRe) had a strong presence at the Tire Technology Expo and the two associated conferences held at the Deutsche Messe in Hannover, Germany February 14-16, 2017.  Dr. Saied Taheri (VT), Dr. Celal Batur (University of Akron), Dr. Ron Kennedy (CenTiRe), Mathew Clontz (PhD Candidate, VT), and Hojong Lee (PhDCenTiRe's Director, Dr. Saied Taheri, chaired the session on "Tire and vehicle modeling and the comparison with real tire test data" in the Scientific & Technical Conference.  Two of hisCandidate, VT) participated.  PhD students presented papers during other sessions at the conference.  Matthew Clontz presented on "Decoupling the tire-vehicle system through frequency-based dynamic substructuring".  Hojong Lee presented "Direct estimation of tire contact features using strain-based intelligent tire".

CenTiRe's Managing Director, Dr. Ron Kennedy, delivered a presentation on "Financial and other business implications of computer simulations on the tire development process" in the Tire Business Strategy Conference.

CenTiRe was provided a booth location in the Expo hall by the Expo organizers (see attached picture).  The booth provided excellent opportunities to interact with tire and tire-related company representatives attending the Expo from around the world.   Everyone actively participated in providing details on the benefits of becoming an industry member of CenTiRe.Contact information was received from over 30 companies, with 18 of these requesting follow-up information.  Several companies are considering attending the Industry Advisory Board (IAB) meeting taking place on Virginia Tech Campus June 6-7.
