The NSF I/UCRC program awards grants for administrative operation in 5 year phases. While NSF funding does not go toward projects, the grant serves a valuable role in helping the Center fund its current operations and expansion. NSF also provides the I/UCRC information on structure and operational best practices, and dictates the Center favorable overhead cost treatment from the universities for industry membership funds.
CenTiRe will complete its first 5 year phase next spring, and so it is time to apply to NSF for Phase II approval and funding. The Center Directors have welcomed the letters of support from the industry members that have been submitted along with the grant application. These are valuable in the assessment of the proposal by NSF.
